holy apples!
The other day I walked out my front door and.....

Holy Apples! We thought this tree was a crab apple tree originally and have just been throwing the little ones that fell away. All of a sudden there are hundreds of beautiful (and yummy) apples in our front yard! I can't let them go to waste. All weekend I picked the ones I could reach, and Brian only fell off the ladder once. :) I made 6 apple crisps...one of which was devoured by two little ladies I know...

This week I peeled, sliced, and froze 5 dozen for later use, and tonight we're going to attempt applesauce to freeze! My house looks like an apple factory.

What a fun surprise!

crop
Some pictures of our crop! We've been eating TONS of cherry tomatoes...a few green peppers, some mini onions (not sure why they were so tiny?), some hot peppers that only Brian eats because they make my skin burn from just cutting them, and a couple surprise cucumbers that I thought were gonza for the third time! This is so much fun!!!

I took this quiz , it's really fun and the results are spot on!
Modern Elegance
Variety is the spice of life! And nowhere is this truer than in the design of your home... You either love contemporary but wish it wasn't quite so cold and austere; or perhaps you've always been drawn to more traditional rooms but are now at a point in your life where you'd like to pair down a bit or want to create a less cluttered and busy space. Transitional Style is here to marry those apparent contradicting designs. And guess what — it's the contradictions that make the mix of contemporary and traditional so successful. The result is an elegant room that appeals to young and old alike. A sofa with modern lines blends seamlessly with a pair of traditional chairs. New fabrics work so well on antique pieces. It turns out that modern art looks even more exciting above a collection of traditional pieces. The room feels simple and sophisticated, elegant and hip.Materials
The material palette for Transitional Style is a wonderful mix as well. Wood tones add warmth to the more modern finishes such as metal and glass. Fabrics are usually neutral and focus more on texture rather than pattern or color. Because you are mixing two very different styles, simplicity is key. Carpets are often Berber in natural tones, though area rugs can bring in color much like a modern piece of art would. Window treatments, when used, are simple in style as well as color and many times you will see natural roman shades or wood blinds used. Satin nickel, chrome and stainless are very popular and can modernize an otherwise traditional space. On the flip side, when the room feels more contemporary vintage golds and wrought iron will tame and add warmth to the space.Colors
For color think simple. Remember that you have set out to create an eclectic mix of two styles and the best way to avoid making the room overbearing is to stay subtle on the walls and ceiling. Whites and creams are popular and grays, taupe's and tans are darker versions of neutrals that work very well. The simplicity in the color helps keep the space feeling light, airy and fresh. If you'd like to add deeper color choosing one accent wall is a nice way to do so. Or add depth by bringing color in at the accessory level. The best part about colorful accessories is that you can easily reinvent the space by simply changing the throw pillows to highlight your new favorite color.Wednesday, July 28, 2010
what do you see?
...Update: After studying this little "beauty" in my house for a couple days, I've decided it needs to be recovered. I can work with orange, but I can't work with the torn arms...
I figure I'm out nothing if it's a huge disaster except the 10 yards or so of fabric...
wish me luck! I've never reupholstered furniture before but I think this could turn out really really cool if it works!
Just look at this transformation this lady did!!!

check out this little gem
This little table has a funny story behind it. One Saturday morning the girls and I were playing in the family room and out of the corner of my eye through the window I saw some furniture sitting at the end of the neighbors driveway. On further inspection there was a "FREE" sign on it. Score. There was a little brown sad looking table just waiting for someone to rescue it. Me! My husband, however, did not agree nor share my enthusiasm. Go figure. It took about an hour of begging and convincing him that "it's the perfect size and exactly what I've been looking for!" and threats to "just go buy the one hundred dollar one at NFM that I've been wanting" to FINALLY get him to take the walk of shame and rescue the free table. He must have had himself all tense (I can't imagine why) because as he picked up the table and turned to walk home, out went his back. Like, bad. That night he was seriously in agony. Did I feel bad, yes, of course, but a couple trips to the Chiro later he's just fine....and so is this little gem of a table! It needed some major TLC, wood glue and paint but I think it's perfect! Sorry dear.

"crop"
More on the blue paint if I ever finish that project...
In the meantime exciting news! Despite the fact that it's completely overgrown with weeds with no hope to rescue, some things are still growing.
Viola!

Isn't it pretty!?
It was yummy too

well one out of two thought so
