So, not wanting to actually buy a desk I started thinking about ways to make one. Back up to a few weeks ago, my mom asked me if I'd have any use for an old door (that she so lovingly calls the Dick Van Dyke Door because of the weird shape windows in it I guess) they were getting rid of. She knows I like to make "trash" into treasure. Hmmm. Long story short I rescued the door. Found these two awesome red file cabinets on good 'ol Craigslist for FREE and viola! A desk. One problem, remember who didn't like it? Yep. I moved it up to the spare bedroom, which in the end works just fine. Better even. All those wires and the big ol printer aren't really great for a living room, he was right. The girls gained a desk with my ancient laptop on it and they LOVE to type their letters.
Awesome?! I think so. I love it. I still need to finish the wood a bit where I took the hardware off. Oh that reminds me! When you take the doorknob off it leaves the most perfect little hole for your monitor and keyboard wires. I think doors are made to be desks, in their second life anyway!:) The chair is from another set I got on Craigslist but that's for another post:)

Erika! Dean did this!! He used an old door to make the computer desk in our "office". Although we don't use the room anymore (until we gut it and make it into nursery #2), it was perfect for both of our computers at the time.
ReplyDeleteI knew Dean was awesome!:)
ReplyDeleteI have seen this done before and have always thought it was a very creative way. I have also seen them put a large sheet of plexi-glass or real glass on top, that way you can actually use the space over the windows.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing Erika! Love your creativeness!
ReplyDeleteHoly cow-to cute and awesome!! So is the door just sitting on top of the file cabinets? I am guessing so since its solid wood! Amazing job!! And I see on your old computer desk that you took prego shots?! I didn't know that!
ReplyDeletei've been looking for a door for awhile to turn into a headboard for our king size bed. i hadn't thought about other ways to use a door. very cool
